shareI'm not sure what you're looking for. I suppose it's not the most reasonable reaction but Beverly was in a downward spiral at the time. I thought it was a bit funny the way he described her 'deformity'.

I was really frustrated at the way he jumped to conclusions and let it all go downhill from there. I mean, a man answering an actress' phone could be anyone in the huge cortege that follows movie stars -- and guess what, it was! Ellie obviously didn't bother to think the slightest about the implications of his lover's career. To me, this was the most ridiculous, and I guess, the most tragic part of the movie. All that pain, based on a stupid assumption.
It was Bev.
However, you never know which way a movie like this could go. It was open to a number of bizarre twists. Irons did a fantastic job.
Actually, he started going downhill before that which made it easy for him to jump to conclusions.
