The inspiration for this movie is the movie D.O.A. from 1950. Dead Heat even shows a clip from this in the movie where they find bigalo in the water. Its very obvious in DOA the man is poisoned and tries to solve his own murder. In Dead Heat a man is killed and solves his own murder.An din the movie both men are named Bigalo.

Except that Edmond O'Brien is alive, and not a cop zombie. Nor does he have a cop partner from SNL.
