Anyone remember Piscopo bad-mouthing this flick?

I seem to remember reading or seeing an interview w/Piscopo shortly after this movie came out where he bad-mouthed it. Apparently he was trying to steer his career in a more family-friendly direction at the time and he was angry at how violent/gory "Dead Heat" turned out to be. Supposedly he voiced those concerns when he signed on to do the movie and was told "oh yeah, don't worry about it, it'll be cartoony kind of violence," but while he was working on the film he became increasingly disturbed at how gross it was, because he wouldn't be able to show it to his kids.

I dig it too, I just saw it on Netflix recently for the first time in many years and I still enjoyed it a lot.
