Soundtrack explained!

Alright! I worked w/ M. Sembello ('Acrobat Productions'), and Dick Rudolph, the music supervisor on this film.

M. Sembello, D. Rudolph, myself & Frank LaRosa wrote and performed a lot (85%)of the score & a bunch of songs.
Bud Rizzo (Mike's cousin, helped w/ some, too, and engineered the whole soundtrk.
Frank & I wrote and sang 'Senior Prom', and the last song 'Titled - 'Senior Prom' ourselves.
Dick & I wrote 'Dance 'til Dawn'.
'Groove Line' was performed by M. Sembello and I did the track, as well as 'Party Hunter' (instr). I did another trk called 'Party Line'. (all in the dance/prom scenes). Hard to remeber w/o seeing the movie again!

I wrote 'Once in a Lifetime' w/ Lenny Macaluso and Cruz Sembello sang the lead vocal.

The 'Ready' song is 'Ready For My Romeo' by Larry DiTommaso & me. The singer is, if memory serves me, Crystal Blake, also, the female voice on 'Bust a Groove'!
She was incredible. Hear it here: http://www.myspace.com/dadamusicpublishing

Maybe left something out, but you got the gist. It was a blast doing it all and I'm very glad you are interested!

Hey Rick,

Thanks! I have been a fan of the movie since it came out and it has a cult following (as you can probably tell by the message board). I also own the DVD. It is too bad they didn't have proper soundtrack credits, but I knew Michael Sembello was part of it since I knew what he sounded familiar. You guys did a good job with the whole film. A lot of the songs run through my mind every now and then.

Hey Rick,
What's the connection between this film's soundtrack and the 1987 Fred Dekker film "The Monster Squad?"

They both featured:

"Rock Until You Drop"
Performed by Michael Sembello
Written by Michael Sembello, Dick Rudolph, and Danny Sembello
Produced by Michael Sembello
Published by Gravity Raincoat, Dickiebird Music & Publishing, Unicity Music, Inc., and No Pain No Gain Music
Courtesy of A&M Records

although, the 1987 soundtrack version I think it's abit longer and may and may not have alt. lyrics? And yet, to date this song has never been released, or been available for sale in any soundtrack, nor any Michael Sembello's GREATEST HITS?

Don't know much on that one. It just got placed in both movies. Maybe they were alt. mixes, is my guess.

thanx so much! i was just gonna come on here and ask if anyone knows what the Ready song was!

reply

I don't remember a ready song either. However, I do remember the song "rock until you drop" which appeared in 2 movies, this one and the monster squad. Both movies are entirely unrelated and have entirely different cast members. I found that to be strange that 2 entirely different movies would have the same song played in them. Yet there's no explanation why this song has not been released on any tape, record,cd, or any other media. Does anyone have an answer.

reply

Ready For My Romeo was played during the prom. 'Rock' was Michael Sembello. The song was submitted to both movies at different times and the directors used it, that simple. Michael did not usually release songs that were used in movies, probably because they were written for that specific purpose, not for an album.

Hi Rick, I freaking love the soundtrack and wish it was available for purchase! Around the 22 minute mark in the film there is a song that goes "in a perfect world"... Could you let me know who sang the song and if it's available anywhere?

Thanks for the song info and link. Greatly appreciated, Rich. Gotta ask, though, but do you have any of the songs you did for the film in your personal archive that you could share with fans, like myself?
