Annoying

Early in this movie there's a discussion on the colour green being related to an emotion. The guy says jealousy. Oh dear, it's actually related to envy. Jealousy and envy are completely different emotions although many people still mix them up!

On dictionary.com envy is a synonym of jealousy. How are you defining each? Here's what dictionary.com defines them as.

Jealousy:
1. jealous resentment against a rival, a person enjoying success or advantage, etc., or against another's success or advantage itself.
2. mental uneasiness from suspicion or fear of rivalry, unfaithfulness, etc., as in love or aims.
3. vigilance in maintaining or guarding something.
4. a jealous feeling, disposition, state, or mood.

Envy:
1. a feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another's advantages, success, possessions, etc.

That hardly seems completely different at all.

Jealousy is when you have something and are afraid of losing it. (For example, you see someone talking to your partner and she/he might go with them). Envy is simply when someone has something that you want. Different meanings but constantly mixed up

reply

Jealousy and Envy mean the exact same thing, though you can use jealousy for fear of losing something it can also means when you covet something that someone else has, making it the same as envy.

I laugh in the face of danger, then I hide until it goes away.

reply

Not quite, but similar. Jealousy is not when someone has something you crave/desire. That's envy
