They had an affair whenever his wife wasn't around? Kinda dilutes the romantic mood of the movie.

sometimes Izzy got lonely and/or horny. Life beez that way.

It actually seems to me that it's Nick who gets lonely and/or horny - he comes to Izzy, not the other way around. She accepts it.

It was meant to show that Izzy wants to see herself as an unconventional, bohemian type of person. Deep down, however, she finds these kinds of relationships unsatisfying-she's looking for something deeper (although she might not be aware of it at first).
