I just cant believe that this is PG-13 and has nudity in it, i dont think that there are any other PG-13 movies like that!

18 Again has nudity and is PG. Just One Of The Guys had some also, and is PG-13.

reply

thats crazy, these days a movie would be rated R if it showed a half of a nipple.

reply

Weekend At Bernies 2(PG), Police Academy 2(PG-13), Monster In The Closet(PG), all had bare boobies.

reply

Titanic and The Fifth Element had nudity as well, but not to this gratuitous degreee. The MPAA were just not as conservitive of nazis in the 80s.

Besides the nudity, this movie has some pretty gory scenes. I don't know how in the world it's PG-13. Maybe some studios pay the MPAA off? I don't know.

See I remember back when the movie rating system in the late 70's and early to mid 80's were like this Rated G, then there was Rated PG, the next one was Rated R, and the last one was XXX.

I am now 35 years old and I remember seeing PG movies that showed very little nudity. It was not until about the mid 80's when they created the new rating system and a new rating known as PG-13.

They do not show half of the stuff that they did 20 years ago guy! What is wrong with you? This movie did not deserve the rating of rated R. Now if they had it more violent and possibly 5 women be topless in the movie then you would have seen it R rated. I forgot to add a little more profanity as well.

This whole Politically Correctness is like a cancer! I mean movies were a lot better and enjoyable to watch 20 or 30 years ago! I prefer to watch old school movies than todays movies I hate to say it.

MPAA was less strict back in the 80's.

There's lots of PG-13, as well as PG movies that have nudity in them: Sixteen Candles, Smokey and the Bandit III, National Lampoon's European Vacation (more nudity than you see in a lot or R-Rated films), Nuns on the Run, just to name a few. So, I think PG-13 was the correct rating.

Titanic also comes to mind.

As far as nudity went, yes, but the MPAA cracked down on gore and violence in the 80's which is why so many horror films got chopped to bits, like the later Friday the 13th sequels.

Showgirls is PG-13 where I live. Good old Europe.

ps: Critters 2 is R, though. No big surprise there.
If the violence wasn't so over the top it would be an instant X, like Terminator & Co. Okay, maybe the equivalent of NC-17. X would be something more senseless brutal, your average slasher flick for instance.

reply

Showgirls was NC-17 in north america, which is a hair short of X. quite funny considering how tame it is. its not even a "back then" issue either because even when i first saw it back then i was expecting lots of sex and nudity...but it was pretty disappointing. lol

reply

I hear all the time these days that PG-13 gets away with so much more and that the PG-13s of today would be Rated R "back then." What a complete load of bull****.

reply

I'm pretty conservative, but I think the "ratings creep" argument is bull. Outlaw Josey Wales was PG and it had nudity (more than a brief flash). Andromeda Strain was G and it had boobs (albeit on a corpse). Planet of the Apes was G and it had Heston's butt. Those were late 60s early 70s. The MPAA should just go with a content based rating system. That way you know what's in a movie, and of you want to avoid it you can. I think it's crazy that some PG13s can have more f words than others. There is no consistency. I think both liberal and conservative people think the MPAA is on crack.

Beastmaster(PG)1982, Coma(PG w/full frontal nudity) 1978, Back to School(PG-13) 1986, Bananas(PG w/full frontal nudity) 1971, Romeo & Juliet(PG) 1968, Waking Ned Divine(PG w/full frontal nudity) 1998, Radioland Murders(PG) 1994, Sixteen Candles(PG) 1984, Endless Summer 2(PG) 1994, Force 10 From Navarone(PG w/full frontal nudity) 1978, As Good As It Gets(PG-13) 1997, Becoming Jane(PG) 2007

Enjoy!

Nudity where it isn't involved in a sexual situation, such as wandering over a field to 'kill krites'. Is more acceptable in lower age brackets
Who's Harry Crumb has nudity in it's first scene as well but to be fair I think the nipples would have be cut off at the cinema by the widescreen matte.

Though maybe in America it has become more sensitive of any nudity below R. Histoically America has been more restrictive of Nudity/Sex while Europe has been more restrictive of Violence/Gore.

The gore in Critters 2 is there but I think it got away with PG-13 like temple of doom(would have if PG-13 had been around for it) because it was all very silly really.

Like how Braindead (Dead Alive) got through the BBFC Uncut in the early 90s despite the fact it was probably the most gory film they had ever passed by far.

It's too bad the MPAA today are run by a bunch of prudish puritanicals that practically want to put us back into The Dark Ages!

This movie should be R rated for sure. It's not just the nudity, but also all the swearing and violence.

Doc Hollywood (1991) was PG-13 and it had some pretty nice nudity in it.

Just One of the Guys (1985) had nudity in it. PG-13 didn't exist back then, but even if it did, it still wouldn't have been R...

I sear I remember Splash (1984) having actual, not implied, nudity. That's what I remember when I was a kid. But seeing it as an adult, there doesn't seem to be any. I could have sworn we saw nipples in that one. Was there an edit version released at some point?

Return To THe Blue Lagoon (1991) had yummy Milla nudity... At least I thought so, I haven't seen this movie since I was much younger... lol

There are quite a few others, but all I can think of have already been mentioned, and I'm only trying to add new ones...

Oh, and I am trying to think of movies released since the 80's... Otherwise I'd mention Logan's Run (1976)...

PG-13 did indeed exist in 1985, it came about because of Temple Of Doom and Gremlins, and went into effect in the summer of 1984.
