foreshadowing... spoiler

Once, when Duvall is arguing with Penn, he mentions that he's been on the force 19 years... Then a few sentences later, says that if one's not careful, he'll never make it to 20 years... Well, Duvall's character (presumably) doesn't make it to 20 years, just like he foreshadowed.
