A movie about civil rights violations?

Granted gangbangers are bad guys but the cops in this were no better. Denying lawyers when demanded, shakedowns without probably cause, use of force violations. Is this movie suppose to make us support cops? Because if it is it failed miserably.

The cops were no better??
Who are the scumbags terrorizing people in the neighborhoods? The Cops?
Who are the ones dealing drugs?? Cops???
Kids can't go out and play!
Where are the innocent people's Civil Rights?
The ones minding their own business and just want to lead a normal life!
Look at the violence, shootings in Chicago, everyone gets killed except for the ones there shooting at! It's actually worse now than when the movie was released.

I have huge problem with it not being against the law to be a known member of a gang. They only do bad things in their community, so why do we allow them to publicly flaunt their affiliation with a gang? Watching this movie made it very clear that the criminal justice system is a complete joke. Nothing has changed in nearly 30 years.

reply

One thing has changed, people NOW can carry weapons (mostly firearms) to defend themselves from criminals. Void in LA once again.

Spoiler alert for them spoil sports out there! Y'all like spoiled milk, stop crying over it!

Clearly you don't understand the First Amendment. There is no actual universal legal agreement on what a gang is. https://www.nij.gov/topics/crime/gangs/pages/definitions.aspx

reply

I am sure that is true, but any veteran cop knows a gang member when they see one.

I'm a retired veteran cop, 31 yrs. How do you recognize a gang member and arrest him and enunciate that in court? I grew up around guys who later joined gangs. Should I have been subject to arrest because police saw me in the park talking to people I knew? Because while time made us go separate ways, and I was never in a gang, that kind of law is subject to abuse that would be swayed to criminalize primarily blacks. Entirely too much power to give to police. If you were white lived in East Harlem in the 40's and 50's, it would be an excellent chance, as a law abiding citizen that you would have grown up, with and know members of the Mafia. And if you saw them on 125th and Pleasant Ave, you would likely stop and chat. First Amendment is also a right to peaceable assemble. There are means in place to catch gang members. Catching them doing crime

One of the many reasons why the first amendment is a crutch. The solution is easy, but the law makes it complicated.

reply

"The First Amendment is a crutch". Wow Founding Father. If you had wrote the Constitution, there would be lots of additional amendments that would only apply to certain people.
