Cocoon: The Return ~ Stupid...

While the original, Cocoon, was good, sadly this sequel's a stinker.
This one's a 0, really!

10 = unmissable, absolute must see!
9 = excellent
8 = very good
7 = good, entertaining
6 = OK, fine, whatever
5 = average
4 = barely watchable, nodded off occasionally
3 = bad
2 = awful
1 = dire!
0 = shouldn't have been made at all!

This movie had a great cast, but suffered from a lousey script! They were only supposed to return for a week or so and then leave. Yet Joe goes and sees a doctor who tells him his cancer isn't in remission anymore. Then he acts terrified that it is going to kill him. The aliens had the technology to help him in the first film, but now they don't?! Then there is the "When Harry Met Sally" rip off scene when Jack and Kitty are eatting dinner. Kitty can make Jack see into the future where he meets Courtney Cox's character. In the originl film as soon as a cocoon is opend the alien inside it has hardly any life force at all and then it dies. In this film the alien is glowing and strong for almost a week. The mom passes out at at the sight of her partents returning from the dead and then we never see her again. The Grandparents decide to stay despite the fact that they know that they don't have much longer to live. I beleive the exact line was "Look around everyone we know is either dead or dying." Then Fay gets hit by a car and Joe gives his life force to save her. So, in the first film a pool of alien enhnaced water can save people the aliens can build Atlantis, travel interstellar space, don't age, hybernate in cocoons for thousands of years and don't age, but they can't save Fay after she was hit and this time around they can't save Joe either?! I bought both of these movies (cocoon 1 & 2) along with "Batteries Not Included" because I love all these characters so much, but no one can convince me that Cocoon The return was a good movie. It made everything that the characters went through in the first movie pointless beacuse when they came back they either (aside from two people)stayed or died.

What's so crazy about standing toe to toe with someone saying "I am"?

How was it a rip-of if Cocoon: The Return (November 23, 1988) preceded When Harry Met Sally... (July 21, 1989) by eight months?

Walter explained that they had charged the pool water with "life force" to give the cocooned Antareans energy to survive the trip home, but Art, Ben, and Joe (and eventually the other elderly people) had sucked teh life force that was sustaining the cocoons to rejuvenate themselves.

The mom passes out at at the sight of her partents returning from the dead and then we never see her again.

Yeah, that was weird. I couldn't wait until the story got back to them 'cause I wanted to hear the grandparents explain the situation to their daughter (who had considered them dead this whole time) and see her wide-eyed astonishment as they recalled their many adventures in outer space. But then... nothing.

I don't think it was necessary. The end of the original was a good closure. What was the point? Because the original did well? Basically, we already know now the secret behind the aliens being there, unlike in the original, where it isn't shown right away and how the old folks find out about it slowly.
