Art and Mary's baby

They discusd staying on Earth and Mary says that if they did they'd "never live long enough to see their baby grow up" but surely if it is a planet on which people don't age, the baby would remain a new born forever? So they'd never see their child grow up regardless. I'd rather die than be the parent of a new born for all eternity.
