Slow-motion?

Did anyone else notice the subtle use of slow-motion in several scenes? It's most noticeable during the sequence where Kinski's face is painted black. Pretty interesting movie, but the way - but not as good as the other four Herzog/Kinski collaborations.

Yeah, I noticed it as well. I thought it was a problem with my DVD copy since it was a rental with quite a few scratches, but now seems it was done on purpose.

If my memory serves me well, also when Cobra Verde is about to kill the King Bossa there is some slow motion. Plus in few other scenes.

I was worried it was a problem with my DVD too - thanks for the reply.

Saw this fabulous film yesterday and noticed what I think you're referring to, but it was not smooth and I would call it "step motion" rather than slow motion. Slow motion is kind of dream romantic, but this seemed a lot of small steps compressed, more an effect of drama an eerieness.

Can anyone confirm if this was intended? I noticed it in a few scenes as well, but I thought it was a technical issue not an intended effect as it was breaking the immersion.

I noticed the mentioned scenes too. My conclusion was that the material shot was maybe too fast for the dialogue/rhythm of the film. Therefore, Herzog could have manipulated the material. But that's just my speculation.
