The Magical Negro is a supporting stock character in American cinema who is portrayed coming to the aid of a film's white protagonists. These characters, who often possess special insight or mystical powers, have been a long tradition in American fiction.

Based upon the above definition, I say that she was.

To an extent, at the beginning, yes. But in the end, it's revealed that her friendship with David helped her as much as she helped him. So, kinda, maybe, depending on how you look at it.

Whoopi herself was a Magical Negro, when you think of it. Her success was nothing short of phenomenal for the time she was successful.
