Impaled Butterfly

Hi
I read 'The Chocolate War' and then saw the movie. I think the film was good, but the victotious ending was disappointing.
But what I really want to know, why is Archie holding an impaled butterfly in the scene where he is talking to Jerry on the phone? Is it random, is it symbolic, or did I miss something shown earlier in the movie? If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

i think its to give him that superiority vibe.
like taking something pure and just corrupting it.

thats just my take on the scene.

It's symbolic...it represents what the director, screenwriter and producers did to a wonderful book -- killed it. Or maybe, it represents what deserves to happen to the people who made this colostomy bag of a movie out of what is one of the best adolescent novels ever.
