I have a couple of questions about the Chocolate War..

and beyond the chocoalte war.

First off what was the point of mentioning Characters like Tubbs if that was the only chapter he was apart of?

as Ellen Barrett in Beyond The Chocolate War-and if not what was the point of her character?

Did Jerry die at the end of The Chocolate War?

I can only give my view on it

I think the author wanted to give you an idea, that he is more than just the chubby kid, he is a boy. Later on Obie tells him about how is girlfriend is using him, she doesn't like him at all, she just wants things from him.
There are some more characters who are given names, the author is writing how the chocolate sale and Vigils are effecting their lives.

Ellen Barrett in Beyond The Chocolate War-and if not what was the point of her character?
Just showing that Jerry wanted to talk to a girl, that he constantly saw.
she smiled at him, and when he called, he hung up.

Did Jerry die at the end of The Chocolate War?
No lol
If you read both books, you see that he is very much alive.

Here are my answers:
1. Tubs was one of the school kids who was selling chocolates (they had a variety of them). We see how fat he is and still he has a girl who is interested in him. This is the sort of teenage behavior these boys have-the interest in girls. They wanted to show many different characters to create the world of Trinity. He is also in the sequel, where he has an assignment from the Vigils.
2. Ellen (the girl Jerry sees at the bus stop and decides to call) is another example of the teenage hormones. Jerry decides to take a shot and call her, something he wouldn't have done at the beginning, but now that he is taking a stand by not selling chocolates, he does.
3. No, Jerry isn't killed, just badly beaten up.

about did Jerry die? If you only saw the movie, I can see someone thinking Jerry died.

And he is let down anyway by her, just as he is with the chocolate sale. He does what should be the right thing, but loses anyway. Such is life according to the book.
