Chucky has the perfect alibi in all eventualities

He's a CHILD'S DOLL. That comes to life and kills people with a big kitchen knife.

You see during this film how Andy has to convince his mother (which takes ages).
Then the mother sees the doll's true nature for herself and tries to convince the cop (which again takes ages).
And then the cop has to convince his mustachioed colleague (which takes a while despite his injuries).

If Chucky had mastered the art of pretending to be a child's doll, then he could've effectively seen all four of them end up in a lunatic asylum because of their "deranged belief that the doll came to life". But of course, he was impulsive and that's why his alibi failed.

Well, technically, his alibi didn't fail. He was "killed" (in whatever sense a possessed doll can be killed). It's not as though he was arrested and brought to trial.

Also, Andy's mom and the cops don't appear in the sequel, and the reason given at the beginning of the film is that Andy's mom is in fact in a mental hospital because of her insistence that Chucky was alive. The cops wisely chose to deny everything and distanced themselves from the situation altogether.

Besides Brad Dourif's voice, this is what is so fun about most of the movies for me.

The dolls hide in plain sight and can get away with anything. No one believes the protagonist. Even when others find out the truth, and eventually "kill" the dolls, it won't matter.
