Possible ways to improve The Church...

Just got done watching this film on Netflix. Great atmosphere, decent make up and props, and very entertaining to watch, but the one thing that bugged me throughout the film (and this goes with most Italian films) is that the sound is horrible.

Now I'm not referring to the music mind you which is very good (though better editing and smoother transitions would have been nice), no I'm referring to everything else; from the bad English overdubs, to general sound effects. Certain scenes should have exploded with noise, especially the end, but it was almost like the sound technicians were using pillows. Moments that were designed to offer a cheap shocks or surprises were wholly muted by the lack of corresponding sound F/X or music queues. Some of the acting was either terribly done, or the overdub simply could not accurately reflect that actor's sense of fear or surprise or interest.

I don't know if a fan edit could address these things, or if fans of this film would even appreciate a fan edit, but I really think that if the sound in this film was cleaned up and new voice actors were hired to add better tension, the viewing experience would be phenomenal. Better editing of certain scenes would be nice as well. To me, this is really a diamond in the rough type film, and could benefit, not with a remake, but with a face lift.

What are other viewer's thoughts?

Yeah, all good and valid points. It was sort of like they were winging it the entire film. :D

I agree. I also think it would help to show less of the monsters. Too often they were in full light for many seconds and the scare factor just goes limp.
