Jeffrey Combs is the main reason to watch this movie

CELLAR DWELLER appeared during the same time period as, REANIMATOR and FROM BEYOND, both Jeffrey Combs movies. If you're a fan of Jeffrey Combs as I am, then that's the main reason for watching or purchasing CELLAR DWELLER.

There's also the beautiful comic book artist Whitney Taylor, played by model/actress, Deborah Mullowney, later better known by her future husband's surname, Deborah Farentino. She's was an eyeful and it was too bad that her acting was just so-so and more disappointing, she didn't show any skin. In the movie Whitney shows up as the newest house member of wannabe artists. She has a vivid, nerd geek boy-like imagination with possible S&M sexual undertones. Oddly, she looks nothing like the comic book artist type. She dresses like a model with makeup. Despite the film year, 1987, she wears a stylish, long skirt to go with her white blouse, instead of the miniskirt or short skirt that was in style at the time.

There's the nice guy already in the house, Phillip the painter, played by Brian Robbins, who is totally unrecognizable in 2016. But in the movie he comes across as the kind of nice guy with a self-deprecating sense of humor in your college dormitory, great to be your friend because he's easy-going with a sense of humor that belies his maturity.

CELLAR DWELLER doesn't offer much to watch and that's a shame because it could have been much, much more. To me it seems like the producers and directors didn't take the low-budget horror flick too seriously and it shows. I felt like I went to a nice restaurant and for the money I paid, got too little food on my plate.
