HOLY CRAP!

PLEASE dont read this if you havent seen the movie yet! PLEASE. And when you do see it DONT think of it as a horror film. You will be disappointed because its not. Maybe think of it as a coming of age film. Kind of. Or a kids film. Even better... And read NOTHING about it until after you see it...

Ok? Ok.

LOVED this movie. I love movies that give us a truly heroic character (especially a child!) who we are fully on board with as pretty much the moral compass of the movie and who you are always rooting for. And then BAM, 2 freaking hours into the movie you get this awesome HOLY *beep* moment where we are forced to see her in a COMPLETELY different way. What a dark turn it takes after TWO HOURS of Lassie like antics and fairly straight forward content. It lures you into thinking this is basically a solid kids story about a tough kid who lives in an unfair world and how she deals with it and then OH MY GOD! And what are we supposed to do with her?! You cant keep thinking of her as a hero after that! Or in the right. He may have been a jerk but he didnt deserve execution for taking her rabbit! And that mock hanging scene at the end! What was that!? Are we supposed to assume we are now seeing the emergence of her true character? A fledgling sociopathic control freak who kills adults for *beep* with her pets and who manipulates her peers into sending a message to the only other witness that if she ever dares snitch shes as dead as he was? Or was she just a kid suffering from hallucinations who ends up doing something terrible? But if it was the latter then she wouldnt be so cold and calculating about covering it up or threatening to hang her friend. What a gloriously dark twisted turn!

Im SO glad I went into this movie it knowing NOTHING about it at all. Why cant they make more movies like this...
