Does the U.K. DVD...

...Have the longer European version? I was looking this film up at dvdcompare.net and it says that the U.S. DVD is edited. The U.K. DVD isn't mentioned. These two DVDs are the only English-friendly versions so far and I would like to know whether or not the U.K. DVD is edited.

Yes, Optimum DVD includes the uncut version, same as the french version released by Studio Canal. It's 16 min longer than the cut distributed by MGM in the states.
I haven't seen the R1 DVD so I dunno what was deleted from the original cut, but considering how prude tend to be the yanks, probably some of the nudity scenes were removed.

Thanks! I've waited almost two years for someone to reply. Well, actually I forgot all about this after a few months. But now I can order the Optimum DVD without worrying about wasting my money.

It's very sad (and idiotic) that some of us Americans are being forced to purchase butchered versions of great movies, just because they're 'too violent' (Braindead/Dead Alive) or 'too sexual' (Malèna)... That is precisely why I bought a region-free DVD player.

Think you have it bad, it is just the same on this side of the pond buddy!

To find the great European films I tend to have to buy region one, as the French do not want the English buying their films. Even when I travel throughout France I find it damn near impossible to find any with sub-titles, hence like you I need a region free DVD player.

Don't give up though, there are some fantastic films out there :)
