People should have been put in PRISON for allowing a budget and hiring actors for this. This makes the hiddeous Grease 2 Look like The Godfather. Who told Jackie Mason he was funny? Chevy, did you need the Cash THAT Bad? ( Um, I guess you did..) This is like a really bad 24 hour virus-get sick, and forget you had/saw it.
Jackie Mason was simply reading the lines that Rodney Dangerfield would have been reading, since Rodney turned the part down. So that part lacked. Robert Stack was the new villan, and he was a bit dry. Like toast without butter. The best part was Dan Aykroyd driving the "barf-wagon" and talking in that Randy Ray Hick voice. Chevy needed the work, yes, but the Ty Webb connection was very necessary here since the film failed to include more connections to the original. In that respect, it was bad. But it was "ok" overall.
<<Jackie Mason was simply reading the lines that Rodney Dangerfield would have been reading, since Rodney turned the part down. So that part lacked.>>
Simply not true. I can picture very little of Jackie's lines coming out of Rodney. They have slight similarites, but their sense of humor and delivery are very different. Jackie's more 'I'm miserable' and Rodney's more of a boistrous showboat. Both are undenyably funny. I think Jackie had a lot to do with the writing of his character.
I really can't fathom why this movie is hated so much, while everything Sandler or the Farrelly Brothers touch is gold. The only reason I can think of is the fact that this was sold as a sequel and should have had it's own title and been marketed differently.....
I heard that the script was untouched, that Rodney was not allowed to tweak it. So he turned the part down, and then Mason accepted. If nobody was allowed to tweak it, not even Mason, then he was reading the same lines that Rodney would have been reading. I know their style and delivery are way different like you explained, but I meant that the script itself probably went unchanged so no matter who stepped in they would have been reading the same and only script. I agree with your last line about marketing, too!
for comedy sequels? as someone said The Jerk Too really really BAD! Also throw on that list Splash Too as well. Made for ABC mid 80s tv movies. And even for Chase this is HARDLY his worst film. I saw one just a couple years ago, "Mad Money" good premise.. but just so PAINFULLZY bad. Funny Farm, which I saw recently and better than I remember, would STILL rather see Caddyshack II over that one as well. Not to mention Cops and Robbersons which I remember aw AWFUL. and I am sure there are plenty of other awful movies out there with Chase.
Amazingly, I saw Three Amigos recently on Blu Ray.. it looks AMAZING by the way.. but actually seems FUNNIER each time I see it.
As has been said.. some of the problems of the script it seems just not enough work. Or maybe just not enough wiggle room for the actors to really work out some of the kinks. The character Stack plays just doesn't seem to FIT him. Even though Stack himself is hilarious. But his characte, Mason, and well EVERY single character seems horribly under developed.
you must be smokin some good *beep* if you think THIS is the worst ever made! lol
This is by NO means the worst ,not the best but ive seen movies that make this one look like Citizen Kane. Do some research on the subject before commenting on it.
Cadd. II had it's moments but was not a true sequel, due to the lack of connections to the first. No continuing story, no Noonan, the list goes on. If this film stood alone and not in the shadow of a classic, it would get better marks. There are so many films that are worse than this one: Nothing But Trouble, Ghoulies (all parts), Next Karate Kid, Rocky IV and V, The Colony (starring the late great John Ritter), Speed 1&2, Zapped!, and Tulips, just to name a few.
How was this not a sequel? The parts that Jackie Mason and Robert Stack played were designed for the original actors. The names were simply changed to protect the guilty. The script was written by Ramis and was obviously intended to carry forth the Al Cervik/Judge Smails rivalry. There's a ton of things this film tried to duplicate from the original, but simply failed.
I avoided this thing for years because I loved the original so much and there wasn't anything - trailer, reviews, reaction, box office - that lead me to think there was anything of value in it. I wish I hadn't finally broken down and given it a shot.
I'm sorry, but Caddyshack II was diabolically unfunny and completely devoid of the edginess that made it's predecessor the king of comedies.
How come every time I post, I get this same bullsh!t signature?
Maybe not a "true" sequel but more of a lame attempt, since there were so many other lacking qualities as I mentioned before. Noonan should have been back, hands down. Same with his rival, Dinunzio (sp) Rodney D was going to return but was not allowed to tweak the script - meaning he knew it wasn't as funny as it could have been. Surprising too, since Ramis did the script!! Akroyd was funny but not in it enough imo.
If it was really that bad I think I would remember something about it,I only saw Exorcist 2 The Heretic once 25 years ago and the stench has never gone away. There was Jaws 4;The Revenge,Batman And Robin,Speed 2,Superman IV and Beyond The Poseidon Adventure.Jackie Mason was a very funny comedian, sequel stars Michael Caine? give it a miss!
Caddyshack 2 definitely better than those listed above by andyandjulie. Great list of super sh**ty sequels! Cadd 2 not great but better than most, and should not be considered the single worst sequel that someone has seen .
actually, I liked Godfather 2-- not nearly as much as 1 but still pretty good. KBII wasn't that good- except for Uma snatching Hanna's other eye out- that was cool.
bottom line ....this movie sucks it should not have been made without the original cast and without a new script. i watched the first 30 minutes and could not take it anymore.to this day i have not seen the whole thing and never will ( just like blues brothers 2000)
It wasn't as good overall, but I thought Chevy had the best moments. Playing golf in the house, and the spot in the bar where he show's how "good" he is with women is classic Chevy. Unfortunately thats about all you see of him throughout the whole movie. Randy Quaid and Dan Akroyd were mildly amusing, but I'd have to agree the rest is like a bad sitcom.
I just watched some of it on Comedy Central this morning and it reminded me of just how bad this movie was. What a shame to disgrace the original with this garbage. I did not laugh one single time the first time I saw it or now. I do agree the only semi-humorous part was Akroyd. But if them that couldn't even get a smirk on my face.
