Why didn't Tuesday Weld return?

anybody know why tuesday weld didn't return to play thalia in this movie?

In his autobiography "Forever Dobie", Dwayne Hickman said the firing of writer Max Shulman and director Rod Amateau was the reason she did not return. Before Max was fired, she had been enthusiastic about the movie and working with Rod again. The casting director was dealing with her agent at the time and was getting nowhere.

Ok. That sounds plausible. I would have guessed that she didn't want to be associated with such a stinker. The songwriting was comedically bad...it's like they were just randomly grabbing words from a rhyming dictionary. Some shows are better left to their era and not exhumed 30 years later.

Sheila Kuehl later said that she'd heard from Warren Beatty (he and Tuesday Weld are still good friends) that Wled had put on a good deal of weight and didn't want to be seen on camera.

If you look at the film that Tuesday appeared in that was released the same year, Heartbreak Hotel (1988) she looked wonderful and not even slightly overweight.
