He was avoiding him because his brother was there to remind him of what they were going to do with his dead mother's ashes. He was trying to block out the death of his mother.

All Fox could muster up, during his mother's bedside scene, was a self-conscious, one-note, stoic look and he hardly looked concerned or moved by her condition\suffering. He was wooden and stiff and didn't appear up to the dramatic acting challenge, in this misfire of a film. The veteran cameos, gave the film more class than it really deserved. I wonder, was this to make Fox look better?
