I always felt that Allabash should have been played by

James Spader.

In fact, when I started watching it today after not having seen it in a few years, I could have sworn Spader was Tad.

Spader... you're right, he was perfect then for this... although Sutherland was good too. But yes, it seems tailor made for Spader.

Agreed. James Spader would have made a much better Tad Allagash than Sutherland. Or perhaps Robert Downey, Jr.

I just rewatched this again on Amazon Prime and wow, what a tame movie. It's funny watching the nightclub scenes with the crap 80s dance tunes and a few classic ones (New Order) mixed in. It leaves me with the impression that Mary Harron used this movie's oeuvre to capture some of the 80s glare for "American Psycho"

The movie overall feels too much like a NBC movie of the week though with hamfisted morality tones injected throughout the movie. I also think everyone was miscast including Fox, Sutherland and Cates. For a movie that tried to capture the dangers of wasted youth it just kinda leaves you wishing for a better script.
