Stayed with me through the years

I watched this only once back in the 90's on VHS, yet over the years scenes would vividly keep popping up in my head from time to time. Certain scenes that made an indelible impression were when Woods was hugging his boss crying when he was caught stealing from his company account, Woods taking his first snort in his friends office, Woods saying "no one has ever given me a gift before besides my wife" when getting the surfboard gift, Woods blowing it in the final job interview/business dinner by foolishly losing his temper, and then him crying to get in the hospital room of his wife after beating her up following the dinner confrontation. I guess my point is some films I watched a few weeks ago I've already forgotten, yet this film that I only saw once kept coming back in my head again and again over time, a sign of how well-made and subtly effective this film is. I finally watched it again on Amazon Instant Video this week and, despite some slight melodramatics in certain scenes, it seems to to have aged well and is still pretty powerful. Woods and Young are also very believable and relatable as a couple and you care about them, which makes their downfall much more tragic to the viewer. I think Requiem of a Dream and Spun have surpassed this in blunt shock factor in regards to the harrowing effects of drug use, but the Boost in it's own way is still very effective and scary on how drugs can cause the total ruination of a otherwise bright, talented man and his loving wife.

Oh, and I just realized that Gunsmoke's Mrs. Kitty(!) was in it as well, something that I wasn't aware of the first time. A nice little surprise on the second go-round of watching this, haha!
