How is the music in this?

I haven't seen this.
And for those that got the soundtrack--worth a listen?

The music is real. Eastwood lifted Parker from recordings, cleaned the hiss and scratches then had Neihaus rewrite arrangements and rerecord with modern equipment. I have a lot of the originals of Parker so it's cool to hear the new and old. Parker was one of a kind for sure. I've been playing for 35 years and I still can't figure out what he was doing.

Parker was like Beethoven. I don't think both wrote or played the same note twice even if they wrote it as such.
Both knew they were originals at the time they were creating genius.

Have you heard Hilton Jefferson?

Also, who do you like?

I think it was a very courageous move to do the music this way (original solo, modern rhythm section), but I'm not convinced that it works. The mix just didn't sound very real to me. And to have the new players attempt to get the pulse from the old recording seems to create a stiff time feel. Bold idea though.

"By God, I heard the crow call my name!" exclaimed Caw.

If only for the fantastic music, this movie deserves to be remembered.
Of course the life, works and death of Charlie Parker are interesting "per se", but Charlie was a hell of musician and the best way to remember/know him is through his music.
