Miles

Why is there no mention of Miles Davis part to play in this story?

I think Charlie Parker mentions Miles near the end when he reminisces about all the great sessions and players he has been a part of.

Anyway, what difference would it have made if his character had a bit part in the movie?

reply

Probably none. Miles was an "interesting" character and musician, as was Bird. Nothing could save this horrible, boring, mush of a film.

The truth is spoken here.

Dizzy was a "somewhat more amiable man"!? Not really - actually he was a pretty volatile character, especially early in his life/career.

You are right , Jack. I don't know where anyone would get that idea about Dizzy. Don't get me wrong, Dizzy wasn't a patsy, he was just much more of a diplomat than the ornery Davis.

One might recall Dizzy getting fired by Cab Calloway after attacking him with a knife (requiring stitches to close the wound)...

I love the admission that it's Ken Burns documentary as a source against Miles Doesn't surprise me at all with it's heavy Wynton Marsalis bias ergo willingness to disrespect Miles. And yeah, volatile would be the right phrase for someone who instead of denying the spitball attack stabs his employer with a knife. Spitballs?

I loved this film! Whitaker was amazing, as was Diane Verona. How anyone could call this film boring is beyond me.
