Not 1943 *One Spoiler*

I don't know why the box and the ads for this movie say it takes place in 1943.... the movie starts off with '1945' on the bottom of the screen when he is on the train heading to basic, and at the end of the film he makes note that the war ended before they had a chance to get shipped out.

If it was 1943, they would have been trained and shipped overseas within a matter of months for certain... wouldn't take 2 years for it at all, or anything even close to it

Maybe Toomey was that nuts that he kept his company for two years.

Yeah but the Sergeant told the they would be shipped to some dirtpile in northern Sicily, and that was happening in 1943

Remember that Toommie was a mental case.

I always thought that Toomie was just a dedicated soldier who was just rubbed the wrong way by someone who he saw as less than dedicated to a cause that he sacrificied a part of his brain for

I think the emphasis on getting sent to some "island in the Pacific" was relevant, given the year being 1945. This likely took place between June and August 1945... even the movie starts off with setting it in 1945.

Sicily Campaign ended in August 1943. That remark caught me as inaccurate as well.

The stage play was set in 1943. When the film was made, the time period was shifted to 1945, but they neglected to fix some of the details.
