the most cringe-worthy 'sex' scene I've ever seen

I could only get through watching this scene with one eye open!

It was Jerome's first time, it's supposed to be awkward/cringe-worthy

Yes, he was so scared and nervous. It wasn't supposed to be a sex scene exactly. Eugene kept saying that he wanted "to lose my virginity". He never really seemed to regard it as something he would enjoy. He just wanted to get it over with. He seemed to regard it as a type of fraternity initiation so he could finally join the club for grown men.

When they were playing their fantasy game, two of Eugene's dreams were to lose his virginity and fall in love with the perfect girl. Notice that he didn't say those two events would happen with the SAME girl! It's seems like a cliche, but it's a perfect example of how men separate love and sex. After losing his virginity he met Daisy and he didn't even want to tell her what "special" thing happened to him earlier.

The only scene I remember from this film is that whole scene and where he says "I found love" and the guys think he means Rowena but he means Daisy.

Oh are you kidding? Yes, it was intended to be awkward. But I found myself laughing out loud. Park Overall is so funny. "Breathe! You're not breathin!" and congratulating him when he was over. Adorable.

That's what made it great
