Maybe this is a prequel

Since his hi-tech house, dog, girlfriend, rival, and bike don't appear in this film. Maybe this takes place a few years before Big Adventure. He never mentions anything from the previous film so maybe he lived on a farm before moving to the city as seen in the first film. However in the first film, Francis recalls the times when Pee-wee rode his bike as a kid, so I doubt this is a prequel after all but a standalone film with completely different continuity. Still, it really doesn't make sense why he would move from the city to a farm in the first place and not have his dog or bike. Did he sell his bike and give away his dog?

Interesting.

It's like the Ernest movies. Same character, different scenarios, events of the previous movies NEVER mentioned, as if they never happened.

This could be true. They did this same crap with Medea and Fred Figglehorn!

I definitely look at Big Top Pee-Wee as a prequel. It apparently takes place years before Big Adventure in what looks like the 1950's. And it shows how Pee-Wee got his start as an inventor.

Francis is a known liar, therefore Francis's comment in Big Adventure about knowing Pee-Wee as a kid doesn't have any merit.

There is definitely a lack of continuity between both movies in either direction though. But for reasons of continuity I think it's fair to look at it as a prequel.

Pee-Wee's new movie Pee-Wee's Big Holiday also apparently takes place in the 1950's. It goes to show that is a common theme in his movies.

I don't see it as a prequel. I imagine it was written as one of Pee-Wee's dreams or fantasies.

Know what I mean?
