Anyway, that's just what I think. Don't get offended or nothing!

I think the major problem with Big Top Pee-Wee is the story and the plot are incredibly weak. The story is pretty much set in one area and doesn't really go anywhere. Compare it to Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, that one had a big story, a plot that was easy to follow: eccentric rebel looking for his stolen bike, he goes on an adventure, meets new interesting and colorful characters, there's a brilliant mix of light and dark comedy, there's action, adventure, all this stuff is happening, and the music score is the icing on the cake. It's so bizarre that it sticks with you. You remember this movie.

Now Big Top Pee-Wee, its plot device: a circus sets up camp on Pee-Wee Herman's farm. Okay, sounds simple enough, but the problem is these new circus characters aren't interesting and the storyline isn't interesting either. It's just long and continuous. Trying to give Pee-Wee a love interest (or two) was a bit of a stretch. The humor in this film is dry, the comedy is neither light or dark, no action, nothing really going on, nothing that interests the viewer, and it seems to change gears a bit fast so it's tough to follow what's really going on. So how do you create a film that sucks? A weak story, an uninteresting plot with an uninteresting love story, mix in uninteresting characters, a dry, rancid sense of humor, and an unfortunately dull score (no offense, Danny), and you get Big Flop Pee-Wee. A movie you'd like to forget. Circus movies seem to be dull anyway. If I wanted to see a circus, I'd go TO the circus.

Now for me, the movie was good up until the circus came. It happens so abruptly you don't have time to wonder, "where'd they come from?" I mean, they just instantaneously materialize on Pee-Wee's farm SECONDS AFTER a tornado.

So that's pretty much why Big Top Pee-Wee is a lame movie.
