Creepy Zoltar machine?

Did anyone find this machine a bit eerie/creepy? I know its suppose to be. It wasn't plugged in and it still worked (eyes lit up). I like spooky things like this but the scene where it was unplugged, I was like "go tell someone its unplugged!"

Yeah, he didn't even mention it to a soul. Showed nobody.

Maybe its suppose to be that way to add mystery to the movie. Who would believe him?

Others could doubt him and assume it was:

1. His own bad/faulty observation
2. His mind playing tricks on him

reply

That thing scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. Just the way his eyes lit up and opened his mouth...

agree.

Where there's smoke, there's barbecue!

Definitely creepy. The red eyes, the breathing sound it makes, the wind that picks up when his wish is granted and when he realises it isn't even plugged in.

Even though I still find it creepy all these years later, I'm still pledging for the Kickstarter project to get my very own Zoltar machine to put on my desk :-)

There's a bodega in a neighborhood I frequent that has a Zoltar sitting out in front of their store. While not as scary as the one in the movie, it still creeps me out whenever I pass by. Maybe next time I'm there I should check if it's plugged in. O.O

His desire to be big was so strong that he imagined the machine to come alive and grant his wish. Then he went home, fell asleep, and the whole "Big" sequence was just a dream which he realized was wrong, corrected it and woke up relieved. Like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, one of many possible interpretations.

It wasn't creepy to me. Gee, you're nuts. And it was supposed to be funny that it was unplugged the first time. Josh didn't realize that until after it worked once he kicked it.

I wanted to encounter this Zoltar machine upon seeing this movie at the theatre as a kid, because it represented a way out of going to school and routine life

we were on vacation last week 600+ miles from home.

we found a zoltar machine.

however, i did NOT let my son do anything with the thing....all we have is a single photo.

Go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!

I found it extremely creepy regardless of the electricity factor, which made it cool.
