It does seem like Josh was acting a little too juvenile for his age when he turned into Tom Hanks. Some 13 year olds are already having sex (probably in the late 80s too) but he was oblivious to almost everything.

How old are you? I promise you it would have been weird for any grown adult to act the way Tom Hanks did in 1988. I am around the character of Josh's age, like about 12 in 1988. So I know.
