just to clarify, ive seen this movie umpteen times, and it is a great movie but i was wondering one thing:

I'm pretty sure the rules were way less strict when the movie came out. Lots of 80s movies that were PG at the time arent the rainbows and sunshine saccharine family films that we have now.
June 25, 2009: The Day the Music Truly Died. Rest in Peace Michael Jackson
Hmmm...I must've missed that line. Where was it used in the movie?
shareits when Billy gets mad at Josh for acting all grown up and he yells "Who the *beep* Do You think You are?"
aside from that a-hole, goddamn, and sh*t is said quite frequently. haha
good point--f#$% that PG rating lol
shareI think a lot of PG-movies have allusions to things that are worse than R. they will slap an R on something for having nudity, but PG usually has a lot of bad language. kids aren't that stupid, they know what they're talking about when they leave things out. watch Scrooged sometime.

And those were the days, I say!
Honestly, I think movies were BETTER then. Maybe it's my aging self that thinks this, but I would take Big over crap like Journey2 any day of the week.
As far as the swearing and copping a feel....real life 12 year olds do this. Kudos to the film for not dumbing down to the audience. I wish more movies would have the gull to do this. Amazingly kids in the 80's came out unscathed from the media influences such as this.
Would have the gull to do this? In this case, it wasn't a gull, it was a buoy. Or did you mean "have the gall to do this"?
sharePG movies in the 80s had a decent amount of swearing in them. It is interesting that the changing standards wiped out the entire class of movies.
shareIt was released when the PG-13 rating was still fresh and only used for intense violence. For instance, Space Balls, also PG, the word s#it is used several times as well as one use of #%&k. The movie Jaws is a earlier example(only the s-bomb though).
Just be sure to take the PG rating with a grain of salt when dealing with films from 1989 or earlier, it didn't mean "children's movie" like it does today.
"Keep plukkin' that chicken"share
because you call it the F-Bomb

It's rated a PG in the UK (have to be 8 years old without parents permission). Well, at least that's what it says on my DVD. But on IMDb it says it's a 12.
I watched it yesterday and I honestly do not recall hearing the 'f-word' in it. I definitely remember hearing sh*t, goddamn and a*shole, but I didn't hear the f-bomb. Maybe they edited it out for this specific DVD.
Yeah the f bomb was used in the scene where Billy was bringing Josh the letter of where the carnivals were located but since Josh was in the middle of an important call he was ignoring Billy so he was mad and disconnected the call. Then Josh has his secretary try to call back whomever Billy cut off and that is when Billy lost it and went off on Josh. Billy said to Josh as he was leaving the office "I'm 3 months older than you A hole".
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take; but by the moments that take our breath away
back in 80s PG-13 movies had nudity in them
share1985's Just One of the Guys is rated PG-13 and has locker room nudity, as well as the main female protagonist revealing her breasts to someone (and it wasn't a quick flash, either) and her 15-year-old brother's bedroom being plastered with fully nude Playboy Playmate centerfolds. Not to mention plenty of cussing, as you would find in an '80s teen comedy.
shareI always loved this movie yet hadn't seen it for 10 years until last week, when I watched with my 8 and 6 years old kids. When she took off her blouse revealing her bra, and he put his hand on her breast, one asked "why did she do that?", and the other followed up with "why did he do that"? *gulp* Totally forgot that was in the movie.Kept thing:This was rated PG?
shareJosh deserved it though ;)
I love the breast scene, it's still a kids' movie though let's not forget.
I WANNA BE BIG! HOW BIG? OH ABOUT AS BIG AS TOM HANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
MPAA allows for usage of the f-word in one instance and not used for sexual or threatening purposes and will give a PG-13 or PG rating.
In Shattered Glass, a second f-word was dubbed over with the word "phony" to avoid an R rating because the word was already used in an earlier scene. Despite neither being used in a sexual or threatening way, it would have given an R rating.
