Call me weird but

There's a good chance my 13 yr old self would have stayed with Susan. Just saying. lol Do note, by this I mean I would have chosen to stay 30. Granted she would be worth a 5-10 year wait.

I justvwatched it right now and I would have stayed. The job and her were worth it. Its what you strive for when you grow up. He had it all why give it up. I wonder what the little josh grew up to be. Probably a loser cause he thought he knew it all, because for what would be considered a blink in his teenage years he was an adult.

But he was never an adult. He was a 13 year old kid in the body of an adult. It's a different thing. I don't think that there has ever been a 13 year old kid in the body of an adult, but there are adults with the id of a 13 year old kid. Either way, it's rough.

The movie is inspired. Yeah, Josh could fairly quickly learn to wear the mask, and yes, he could pick up on the carnal stuff, but on the whole he was just acting in an alien world, far from home.

Susan did make a pretty wonderful fantasy for Josh, though. A mother figure (as you could tell from the last scene), "with benefits". But see, even thinking that thought shows you that you don't even want to TRY to make that work. The movie shows us that even when you take away the trappings of molestation (Susan couldn't possibly know Josh was any younger than 30 until he TOLD her at the end he was 13), the taboo is based on more than just the image of a kid's body.

I doubt very much that Josh grew up to be a loser, with those early insights he picked up, and his head was on straight to begin with. My picture of it is that it is entirely possible that after 10 years they came together again.

He started to think like an adult though, he was acting very mature close to the end. If he stayed he would've been just fine since he was thinking like an adult.

My question is would he go back to the toy company once he grew up again to try to get his old job back?

You're looking at it from an adult perspective, which is natural. The movie tries to look at it through a 13 year old's eyes.
...why give it up

It's clear that he stays longer than his originally intended 4 - 6 weeks, in the process becoming more adult-like. Susan is the major reason for this. But then he realises he misses his family and friends and generally being a kid, doing kid stuff.

reply

But then you'd miss as a whole chunk of your life! He'd isn't want to miss being a teenager/ he wasn't ready to be an adult!

Oops typos!

Ok, you're weird!

I think I would have stayed too. Knowing how hard high school was, I definitely would have stayed. But Josh doesn't know that yet.

reply

Weird butt.

I would have stayed Big too mainly because my home life was awful. But he enjoyed and missed his home life. He wanted to go back.

reply

I really doubt you would.

Maybe, but as 13-yo I think you would eventually miss your mom and dad. Susan can't replace that, and even though you'd have the body of a grown up, you'd still have the emotional immaturity of a 13-yo.

I suppose, but it's funny what a beautiful woman could make you forget.

Exactly, he's 13, he needs his Mom and Dad (love and security until he's mature enough to take care of himself when he's really an adult) to continue to grow, learn about life, and well, be a kid. His brain is not yet fully developed, and he was missing them and his childhood terribly. Kind of like when you lose your Mom and/or Dad at the mall when shopping, and you panic and ask someone for help, and when they find them, the relief you feel (as a kid) is amazing.
