The Alternate Ending

So I noticed the Alternate Ending page has been edited once again, but this time it's been edited to try and say it never existed.

As a New Zealander, who vividly remembers their parents (and later myself) renting this on VHS as a child many many times (family favorite film) from the local video store, I can say that the Alternate Ending with Josh turning around to see the 'new' Girl in class is REAL and does exist. A lot of people my age who I have talked to over the years, also remembers this ending when brought up in discussion.

The editing of the page suggesting someone wrote to Tom Hanks and Penny Marshall doesn't mean anything, because they were not in the scene in question, so unless they were on set at the time (highly unlikely) they wouldn't have any idea of it. It could well have been a pick up scene.

In order to find it, you'd have to find an original first release VHS tape from New Zealand. Not a simple task I tell you, as I have been on the hunt for many a years.

The person you need to contact is David Moscow, the actor who played the Young Josh.

So this version was only released in NZ? Seriously, back then a lot of people made copies of the videos they rented. There would be many many copies of this special edition of "Big" in NZ homes and uploaded to youtube by now.

This version did/does exist. While it was not the theatrical version, this was an ending back in the late 80s /early 90s on VHS. I distinctly recall because I was aggravated when later formats did not include this ending. I thought that alternate ending was much sweeter.

Actually, the scene you're describing is from the made-for-TV movie "14 Going On 30" from 1988. As for Big, Penny Marshall wouldn't have been in the scene anyway. She directed the movie.

I too remember an ending like this. I hadn't seen this is a very long time and watched it last night. I was a little surprised by the ending I saw. I remember something of him turning and seeing a girl his age.

What I'm remembering is not 14 Going On 30. I looked that movie up and never seen it or heard of it till now.

As has been noted here many, many times, the producers explictly stated in the DVD commentary that no such alternate ending was ever filmed, let alone released. If you think they are lying (and why would they??), find a link to this alleged ending and post it. Otherwise, despite what people claim to remember, there was definitely no such alternate ending.

Stop spoiling the fun! :)

I had the same problem as everyone looking for the 'alternate ending'... and I am from Spain, and it is true that we also saw the same alternate ending you described but for some reason the "BIG" producers weren't acknowledging it existed.... until I found "14 going on 30".

That's the movie we watched when we were kids, and we probably watched "BIG" too! Both films came out around the same time. So as the premise was kind of similar, we probably mixed the best out of both films and created our own 'unique' movie. Funny thing is that the actor in '14 going on 30' does ressemble Tom Hanks... so that did somehow help in us thinking it was 100% BIG who had the ending we all loved.

Anyways, I found the movie on youtube so here's a link:

Have fun!

I could have sworn I've seen a different ending too but I would think there would be proof by now. I'm going to assume I saw 14 going on 30 and confused the two. I don't remember that movie but the ending is on YouTube and it ends with the woman turning back into a girl and she goes to his classroom and sits next to him and then he realizes who she is. Sounds about like what I thought was the ending to Big.
