You would not see this today

Tom Hanks was brilliant. One of my all time faves.

Today it would be Will Farrell doing over the top childish, disgusting, vulgar comedy. This was magic. The love story was pure and tender.

My fav parts - I love the company party and his innocence.

The company meeting when he raises his hand like he's in class. The other guy (forgot his name) was so offended yet he was just being 100% honest on his observation of a boring toy. We are missing that today. Everyone takes everything so personal and as a shot and gets pissed. But listen to someone when they are being truthful with no hidden motives. As adults we become even more competitive than children. Really look at that scene. The presenter of the Empire State building robot toy was being an immature brat. Isn't that ironic.

This is in my opinion Hank's best role. It's magic.

Actually, if you think about it, he sort of did that in Elf, only minus the vulgarity. In his commentary, director Jon Favreau compared Elf to Big, citing it's not just one long gag, that both characters do grow and manage to fit into their surroundings.

I heard he said that but I actually disagree. Buddy is childish to the point of borderline retarded.

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time Del Boy, it's them that started me drinking!

Venture to guess any child brought up to work as an elf in Santa's workshop then dropped into New York at age 30 something would in fact be graded as retarded...

Ephemeron.

Yep.

Today it wouldn't take 6wks to get the report on where the machine went to. You would just look it up online or send an email.

I watched this lots as a kid and loved it, but its only now I notice a lot of the small yet funny stuff like when he's walking around the toy shop swinging his carrier bag, when he enters the AGM/ work party and checks to see if his flys are open. Tom Hanks is a genius

Yup or Adam Sandler playing a Little Nicky type of character when grown up Big. Lol

They sure don't make them like they used to. The 80s was a magical / golden era.
