Why is the only DVD of this movie in Fullscreen???

I don't get it...this was a theatrical movie, and if I remember correctly the VHS of this was widescreen, so why isn't the DVD?? I'd love to get it, but not if it's pan and scan.

Uh, it's available in widescreen, though only if you shop at that ultra-obscure place known as amazon.com

Uh, no it's not. Look on Amazon and you'll find the only version of this is Fullscreen, despite what the package may say.

Here's what it says for "The Beast" entry on Amazon

Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1

That's widescreen.

I own this exact version of the movie. It's widescreen.

This is crazy talk, nobody would ever shop at a place with such a silly name.

As an aside my region 2 copy is standard widescreen.

i bought a copy used at some pawn shop, and it had widescreen and fullscreen. unfortunatley the widescreen *beep* up half way through the movie

I just purchased this at Big Lots and my DVD only includes the full screen version. I only paid $3 for a new sealed copy so I can't complain.

I did a little research and this is yet another re-release where the studio has stripped the widescreen version for some reason (this practice infuriates me). The older version was DS-SL, the newer version is SS-SL. The studio kept the same UPC on the packaging but full screen is the only version listed.

There is discussion of this over at the DVD Talk Forum (see post #16):

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Later!

when it first came out, it was a flipper disc 1.85 widescreen on one side, FF on the other; and it said so on the back
Columbia is full of dimwits. MANY of their DVDs, after their initial sales run go to FF only...i mean wtf?!

reply

ALERT! Columbia has a stupid habit of first releasing movies on a double sided disc-in Widescreen and Fullscreen, and then after a couple years, REMASTER it, and put it out FULLSCREEN ONLY-without bothering to correct the case movie specs-you can get if widescreen if you can watch DVDs from the UK (R2)at Amazon.uk
