I expected it to be rated in the mid 4, I rated it 4, but IMDb users rated it at 6.3. I personally found it shallow and manipulative. The two actresses did good work, but the script and direction let them down.

And yet, many other people, myself included rate this film as one of their favorites. It's a beautiful story about a lifelong friendship, and the trials and tribulations that come with such a friendship.
A few years ago I lost a friend whom I'd known since high school. In our case, we did grow apart. She changed tremendously and not for the better, and I just couldn't take it any longer. And yet, whenever I watch this film, I think of us. Because for a time, we were Hilary and CC.
There are a lot of people who can relate to this film (mostly women, obviously). So it rates higher because of that.
