what is the relevance of the title?

i saw this movie for the first time, loved it.
was wondering why they titled it as "beaches"..

Well they meet on a Beach when they are kids, and there are other times throughout the movie when they get together/meet up/vacation on a beach....I think it is named Beaches because the movie is about two women who are live long friends and the friendship started on a BEACH. =)

Nope. The title comes from the quote "Do I love you? My God, if your love were a grain of sand, mine would be a universe of beaches." from The Princess Bride book.

The title comes from the book title. In the book the theme of beaches is more obvious throughout. The girls meet on the beach for the first time as children and in the book meet up many more times throughout their lives at different beaches.

As well as the two children meeting by a beach, the charactor Hilary also dies by the beach.

Not to mention most of their friendship takes place through letters while living on completely opposite "coasts", or beaches.

I just thought it was a polite way of saying "two or more women".

was wondering why they titled it as "beaches"..

I always assumed it was because their friendship begun and ended at the beach.

Their friendship started on a beach and then ended on a beach. The fact that each beach was on a different coast represents how far their friendship had come.

I always thought it was meant to represent how things are always changing in life (the water always washes things away), and how their friendship lasted despite it.
