Why no DVD?

Becoming a cult classic, why isn't "Baxter" released on DVD? I would like to see it. My stepfather, who didn't care for foreign films (more of the Smokey and the Bandit sort), even loved this film.

reply

There is a way to get Baxter on DVD. I checked the french version of Amazon.com and they have a french version of the DVD. If you have a regions free dvd player than this is the only current way to get this fine film on DVD.

But will it have an option to turn on english subtitles?

reply

Nevermind, it says it does have the english subtitles option.

if you have a Hollywood Video near you, you can probably find the VHS for sale for 2-3 bucks in the foreign section. I've seen it at several different stores. That's how I got my VHS. Not all Hollywoods are purging their VHS, but most are.

Just keep telling yourself...its only a poodle...it's only a poodle!

Superhappyfun has it.

I'd love to have this on dvd or vhs. I haven't seen this film in a long while.

Lionsgate has released this one Region 1 for those interested in purchasing the film stateside.

JOEHORROR.COM - YOU KNOW YOU LOVE IT!

The DVD is coming out in the US on July 17th!

I just saw it listed as a pre-order at DVD Empire.

reply

it is coming out, the problem is the new DVD cover is AWFUL, it shows a pit bull attacking something and has the tagline "HE'll LOVE YOU TO PIECES"

reply

It's a shame that a great film like this has to suffer from the horrible DVD cover Lionsgate chose to slap it with, when the original cover was great. People are going to rent it thinking one thing and then get something completely different. Hopefully the majority of the mouth-breathers staggering through Blockbuster will deal with the subtitles and sit through this wonderful flick.

reply

I agree, it's a terrible cover choice, which is why I even printed off the original cover art and slipped it in over the crappy one.

I didn't mean to call you meatloaf, Jack.

I saw this at my local library and based on the cover alone, checked it out.

I'm pleasantly surprised this isn't some cheaply made Cujo ripoff, its a bit smarter, witty. About 3/4ths through the flick & hope to finish it this afternoon.

Also should be mentioned the Lionsgate DVD is pretty BAREBONES...Mono French Audio, English & Spanish Subs and THAT'S IT!!!!
