How did it end?

If anybody's looking here, I just want to know how the movie ends.
I saw it when I was about 7 and I remember it made quite an impression on me.
But I can't remember the end.
Help.

It's really a spoiler so I'm not telling you. And besides, it's worth revisiting it. Rent it again - I don't think 7 was the best age for it - and you'll see it will make quite an impression on you again.

Where I live DVD/VHS rental is not really big and I'm sure I won't find it anywhere. So please, spoil it for me. I don't mind.
I saw it when I was 7 because back then the national television here had no rating system and showed only cool movies in prime-time. My parents were not in their right mind and let me watch whatever I wanted. It was great. I now realize how it all changed from only one TV station with Truffaut, Hitchcock, Chaplin, Bunuel etc. to a zillion channels showing mainstream crap at best. But I guess globalization is a good thing.
So please, again, tell me the ending.

Poor Baxter. Sure he was evil and all, but did he really deserve that?

He's beaten to death by the Nazi kid so that the director can pretend he's making subversive art (which might have been true if the film had been made in Germany in 1942, rather than France in 1989).
