Liza's Razzie

I didn't think she was that bad, I actually quite enjoyed her performance. It may have been far from her best performance, but come on!

If "they" can give Liza Minnelli a Razzi, they might as well give one to DeNiro as well.

I agree, I was so shocked when I heard that she got a razzi. Her performance wasn't amazing but she was so natural and funny she just fit right into the role. Liza and her mother are both great actresses in my opinion.

The directing wasn't great either. But yeah, disagree with her getting one for this.

hey.. think about poor Sandra Bullock.. she won a Razzie on the EVE of her Oscar win.. haven't seen either film (All About Steve or The Blindside).. but you have to admit that's kind of sad and funny.. although I thought it was quite funny that Bullock ACTUALLY showed up to receive her Razzie.. with a box full of "All About Steve" dvds for the people to watch.

And.. very often the Razzies are given for other reasons than JUST what is going on on the screen.. but I did find her character pretty inconsistent at times with the one as oringally written..

In 1972, Liza Minnelli was the biggest movie star in the world. This didn't last very long, but with well-received concerts, TV appearances and hit Broadway shows, she sustained her celebrity. "Arthur 2" was released the same year as "Rent-A-Cop"; these films were her first in eight years. Neither one of these movies set the world on fire and the latter was a financial write-off. However, neither one of them is exactly a flat-out embarrassment, and Liza's performances in both are more than respectable. The Razzies LOVE to skewer big celebrity names. That is why Liza "won" this for the aforementioned films and why, this year (2011), she is "honored" with a nomination for "Sex and the City 2", along with Cher in "Burlesque" and Barbra Streisand in "Little Fockers." Three divas, three critically dismissed films--the "nominators" could not resist.

The Razzies aren't to be taken seriously, but if they want any real respectability from this end, neither of the above actresses will be awarded this time. Jessica Alba is long overdue anyway.

And you were right; they went with probably the best choice, Jessica Alba.

But can none of you read? They couldn't resist the opportunity to "award" Liza, but it was really (also) for Rent-a-Cop, a bigger flop with Burt Reynolds.

I agree that she wasn't as bad in this movie. But her rendition of SINGLE LADIES in SEX AND THE CITY PART 2 felt like she was having one of LUCILLE 2's panic attacks. Meanwhile, because of her surgeries, Cher had the exact same face throughout every scene of BURLESQUE, and, Streisand once again played an annoying Jewish stereotype in LITTLE FOCKERS. Besides, you admitted that those were bad movies. How could they not be nominated?

She starred in 2 bad movies in the same year. Both were box office flops, and one was an unnecessary sequel to a hit made almost 10 years later.

Most of these nominees are pretty weak. I mean, they nominated Vanity and Elvira. Um, sure. Okay. The Telephone was Whoopi Goldberg hitting rock bottom as a lead actress before reinventing herself as a supporting actress in Ghost. The same could be said of De Mornay to an extent. And God Created Woman was supposed to jump start her career which had been flagging since she turned heads in Risky Business. Instead, it invited unfavorable comparisons to Brigitte Bardot.

The big name here is Liza Minnelli. Minnelli’s footprint is bigger than her filmography. She is Dorothy’s daughter. She’s messed up Hollywood royalty and that’s catnip to the Razzies. Minnelli is better known for her music and theater work than she is for movies. So the Razzies knew if they wanted to give her an award, they couldn’t let opportunities pass them by. When she made two lousy movies in one year, of course she took home the prize.

It kind of reminded me of JIm Morrison.
