The role of Susan

Does anyone know why Jill Eikenberry did not return in the sequal as did the other orignal actors from the first movie?

reply

I'm just guessing but by the time this sequel started being pulled together, Eikenberry was deep in the middle of L.A. Law and couldn't be bothered. She also probably read the script and ran for the hills.

I just saw the movie for the first time this evening and stopped watching after the first hour. Wow, what a waste. "Arthur" is one of my favorite movies. This sequel is an abomination.

Alright, it's not just me then! I KNEW it wasn't the same Susan as from the original!

Clearly, Dudley Moore was right on top of his game. He was just as funny in this film as the first. The problem is that the script got sappy with the baby nonsense and the social worker and how sappy Minelli was throughout the film. Minelli was only good when she was doing her hard-as-a-rock waitress attitude. And the fact that Jill was not in this film also hurt it.

thought Susan was actually hotter in this one.

No, it's not you. I think if the role was THAT important...I suppose the makers could've put off the filming until she was on hiatus from filming LA Law (which never watch).

The role of Susan was a lot sassier and bitchier in the sequel. In the original she was very timid and soft-spoken.
Maybe the producers and casting team thought it suitable for another actress to take over the role and I think they did well with Cynthia Sykes as she did very well and she was hot to boot.

I thought this movie wasn't as good as the first, but it was nice to look in on these characters again. I give the original a 9.5, this one an even 6.

Did anyone else catch the fact that BOTH actresses who played Susan ended up on L. A. Law? Coincidence? I think not.

Also, did anyone catch that Martha was a bit more a modern woman in the sequel?
She was dowdy in her old-lady dresses and shawls and no make-up in the original, then in the sequel she was pulled together in current clothes and make-up.
