A "guilty" pleasure... and very decent sequel!
Have to admit that for years I kept the fact that I loved "Arthur 2" to myself as it wasn't a film that garnered much love or respect, but I couldn't give a flying fig by this stage and am happy to say I think it's one of the better sequel's Hollywood has ever produced.
I like the first "Arthur", but actually prefer the sequel which has a genuine lightheartedness, sweetness and charm I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate. The film was poorly recieved both critically and box-office-wise on its initial release (which I largely blame on it being a few years too late - the sequel is set 4 years after the first but came out 7-8 years later), however I am glad to see it has and is gaining an appreciative fanbase and audience in the subsequent years and decades.
As sequels go, this is very decent and respectful to its original and a lot of fun in the process and in its own right PLUS John Gielgud's return as Hobson (rather than being a gimmick as might first be percieved) is actually such a tender and poignant moment in the franchise/story... with him returning to point(kick) Arthur in to the right direction in his life.
Lots of love for "Arthur 2"!!
