At the end of the 1st one, ARTHUR is cut off for not marrying SUSAN. At the beginning of this one, he's still rich.

His mother went against burt johnson and he got the money anyway. Instead of just living with it i guess burt wanted to get even.

It wasn't his mother, it was his grandmother. Probably why he refers to her by her first name: Martha.

You really need to watch the first one again and pay attention to the dialogue in the last scene.
