Confused

Ok im confused.
Last year i watched the 88 version.
Last night i watched ex machina.
As im watching ex machina, i was thinking ok, this is just a remake of the 88 version coz im seeing alot of similar scenes and character relationships and stuff. They have just updated it with cgi and mmore action, fair enough.
Then i came on IMDB and looked it up and found that ex machina is a sequel.
So what is the first CGI one?
Im sure you understand what i mean, help me out here.
