Airport scene [spoiler]

the scene when jack tries to board the plane but an airport official states that his passport has to be renewed by the police is reminiscent of the airport scene of the movie "Midnight Express".

in midnight express the main protagonist played by brad davis tries to get past the usual airport security (id and luggage check) and is wearing sunglasses and is frantically chewing a gum, as jack does in apartment zero. the security guard asks the characters to remove their sunglasses in both movies :)

I never thought of that but you may be totally right because of two facts:

1. Martin Donovan (the writer, producer, director) was a good friend of Brad Davis.

2. I was told years ago by casting director Noel Davis, that Martin Donovan, after writing Apartment Zero as a play in the 70s, had a reading in somebody's house with Brad Davis reading Jack (Hart Bochner's part)

Great detail to notice mxpx05

Well given the very ending was used before in What's To Matter With Helen, not a surprise that that particular might also have been inspired by another movie. (I thought though the particular scene you mentioned was a little too overdone, after all Jack is a killer he likely wouldn't have been so nervous being questioned given he was undoubtably in many tight spots before but rather would have been trying to bluff his away out of it.
