Generously Overrated! (Spoilers)

I assume this is due to all the Netherland watchers who pump up the rating because 'Well, it's the best they've got'.

Well this Citizen Kane of Netherland just doesn't cut the mustard to any saavy movie watcher.

Acting: C- (I can respect that most of this was dubbed in English, so it just had to be better in Dutch... right?)

Directing: C (I liked The Lift better, only the chase scenes were watchable)

Writing: D- (How does the killer survive an explosion and multiple gunshots... oh yeah, he's a mutant... but a harpoon CAN penetrate his mutanty skin)

Add to this an artificial and un-needed love interest subplot... pepper in a daughter subplot (with no emotion at all)... rediculous 3rd act... oh my, there is no way this movie should be a 6.2

Uhm, with all due respect, but
it's the Netherlands not Netherland,
and I hardly think that all the Dutch people are on imdb voting for a 20 year old movie. Most probably not even remember it.
The movie was released worldwide so I doubt only Dutch people voted.

Furthermore you don't know anything about Dutch movie history, so don't be narrowminded by saying that we say this is our Citizen Kane.
It's hardly "the best one we've got"
This movie is not regarded as a piece of art at all in the Netherlands, just as entertainment.
It's not number one, not even close, because if you did your homework you would have known that this country made lots of more and better movies than this one.

And speaking of doing your homework, and speaking of "our" Citizen Kane;
maybe you have heard of some Dutch Oscar winners like ANTONIA, DE AANSLAG or KARAKTER (Character) now those are master pieces, and it's quite offensive that you say that the Dutch compare this movie to those, and saying that the Dutch think of this as their Citizen Kane.
You say we think "this is the best one we've got" just because this is the only Dutch movie you know.

You're obviously not Dutch, since you can't even spell the name of our country right, so please don't have the arrogance to pretend like you know what Dutch people think or do, that's not only narrowminded but you're making a fool of yourself.

I'd say it's underrated as hell.

There's something wrong with Esther.

The plot was taken from The Embalmer(1965) an Italian movie with the same idea.
