I have seen this film hundreds of times on vhs and dvd. The "Children" cant possibly be theire real children, Id say its very unlikely.I think that the children came to be part of the family the same say that Cinthia become one of them at the end. Over all this is one of the best horror films of its kind, a true GEM!
The "Children" cant possibly be theire real children
Why not? I mean, Fanny, Teddy and Woody were old enough to be Ma and Pa's biological 'children'. They could have been conceived when their parents were in their twenties or thirties, I guess. It would have been different if they were ACTUAL children, but they were not. The three of them were a bunch of middle-aged nutt-cases who thought they were kids, but it was biologically possible for Fanny, Woody and Teddy to be Ma and Pa's real children.
Now, I don't know if you're making this assumption because of their ages or if because both Ma and Pa were too religios to even consider the slightest possibility of having sex and conceiving. If the second theory is what you're talking about, then I guess it makes sense. 'Pa' referrs to sexual relationships as 'Devil's Play' in the scene in which Rob and Lynn want to go to bed together, so it's obvious that the old man had some kind of aversion towards sex. It's just that I'm not sure if he called it 'Devil's Play' because Rob and Lynn weren't married or if he simply was against any kind of sex whatsoever.
I'd say they were Ma and Pa's real kids. I think that if they weren't, they would have hinted around about it a little more.
And Pa calls it "Devil's Play" because they're not married... because right before that is when he says "Hitched! hitched! hitched! It means married! That's what it means..."
Yeah, you're right, he was against it because they weren't married. By the way, I just love the way he yells 'Hitched, hitched, hitched!'. For some reason, I always burst into laughter every time I see that part.
I think they were Ma and Pa's kids...could be an easy explanation as to why Fanny's baby died (it would likely have had many biological problems) and why would they need such a big home if they didn't have kids?
I always thought they were an odd, but interesting bunch. I sort of wished they would've gone into more detail as to why they cut themselves off from the rest of the world and lived on a remote island.
I too believe that Fanny, Teddy and Woody where Ma & Pa's biological children.
Watched this movie recently and throughout most of it I thought that the "kids" weren't actually their biological children. Until the ending when they take Cynthia down the basement to show her all of the other skeletons that they killed. One of the skeletons, according to Fannie was the doctor that delivered her so that would make me think that at least she was their biological daughter
